A Demopolis woman is in custody for allegedly stabbing a man in the Demopolis Walmart Tuesday evening and beating another woman with a crowbar.

Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers said that Kierra Shanee Carter, 32, was arrested on Highway 80 shortly after officers arrived at Walmart to find that a 47-year-old man had been stabbed.

The victim was taken to Whitfield Regional Hospital and was later airlifted to UAB in Birmingham, Flowers said.

According to police, Carter picked up a crowbar and a butcher knife at the store and started assaulting a 29-year-old female. She then began chasing the female in the store with the crowbar.

“At this time, the male victim attempted to take the crowbar away from Carter and was cut in the process,” Flowers said. “The suspect was not known by either victim.”

The female who was assaulted was also taken to Whitfield Regional Hospital, where she was treated and released, according to Flowers.

Marengo County E911 dispatchers gave out a description of the vehicle that the suspect left in and the direction the vehicle was going, Flowers said. Officers intercepted that vehicle on Highway 80 without incident.

Carter is charged with one charge of assault in the first degree and one charge of assault in the second degree. After further investigation and speaking with the District Attorney’s Office on Thursday, Carter was given an additional charge of terrorism. She is being held at the Marengo County Detention Center with no bond.

“I would like to commend the Demopolis Police Officers that were on duty for their quick response and apprehension of the suspect as well as the Marengo County E911 dispatchers for obtaining the vital information and getting it out to the officers very promptly,” Flowers said.  “I would also like to thank the Marengo County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office Investigators for their assistance.”
