A big drop in memberships due to the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the YMCA of Selma Dallas County to start a Gofundme account to raise $100,000 to cover day-to-day operations.

Selma Dallas County Y officials say they have been operating at about 20 percent their normal membership level during the COVID-19 pandemic, which means a loss of income that would cover costs for improvements and everyday expenses.

Director of Operations Rashida Morgan said the current financial situation at the Y has nothing to do with its debt. But, she said, “Membership is low, and we understand that’s due to COVID, but we are limited on what we can renovate or maintain here.” She said the idea to do the Gofundme account is for day-to-day operations, more COVID supplies and updated machinery.
