Faith Academy picked up two wins on the volleyball court, but took losses on the gridiron in another busy week.

The Knight football team fell to Valor Prep 78-34 last week despite solid individual offensive performances.

Junior quarterback Dyllan Olivares continued to elude defenses to find open receivers. He completed 18 of his 29 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Olivares also earned his first rushing touchdown of the second on a 6-yard scramble.

Senior Josh Stark caught two of Olivares’ touchdown passes as part of his three receptions for 59 yards. He also ran for 129 yards on 17 carries.

Fellow senior Jackson Dunn also performed well with four receptions for 84 yards and 43 rushing yards on six carries.

Faith Academy’s offense racked up 568 yards against Valor Prep, but struggled with red-zone penalties in crucial moments.

“Olivares is playing outstanding and making all the right decisions and audibles,” Faith Academy coach Trey Carter said. “We just have to protect (him) to put points on the board.”

The Knights struggled defensively against a quality Valor Prep receiving corps. Sophomore Michael Satterwhite led Faith Academy with 11 tackles before having to exit the game due to injury in the third quarter.

Senior Gage Wilson and junior Kelton Galle added eight tackles each while Davis and Stark tallied seven tackles each.

“Defensively, we have to stick to our keys and tackle better,” Carter said. “That will be an emphasis going into district play.”

Faith Academy football will have its bye week before facing Kingwood Covenant on Oct. 17 in a game billed by the Knight program as the "ultimate district championship matchup.”

Volleyball

Faith Academy’s volleyball team collected three-set wins over Second Baptist Cypress and Lifestyle Christian this past week in a quality week on the court.

The Lady Knights struggled to stop Second Baptist freshman Micah Yaw on Sept. 30. She recorded 21 kills, but only recorded a .167 hitting percentage.

Faith Academy kept the rest of the Second Baptist roster in check. The Lady Knights allowed just four kills outside of Yaw. Second Baptist’s two other hitters with at least 10 attacks both recorded negative hitting percentages.

The Knight coaching staff, led by Gabby Bebee, said that the Knights presented a balanced attack and relentless defense in both matches. Faith Academy closed both matches with confidence while also passing and transitioning well to keep opponents off balance.

“These were great momentum builders for us,” the coaching staff said. “The girls are working hard, playing together and proving they can control matches from start to finish.”

Cross Country

Faith Academy runners took part in St. John School’s 44th Rumble meet on Saturday in Spring Creek Park in Tomball.

Ethan Stegent competed in the varsity boys black division, a race reserved for elite runners. He earned 40th place in a competitive 147-runner field with a 5K time of 17:18.

Daniela Skardenni represented the Lady Knights in the varsity girls race and earned a time of 14:28 on a 3,200-meter course. She placed 32nd out of 138 runners.

Quinton Moore improved his 5K time by two minutes to 23:03, earning 73rd place in the boys junior varsity race.

Two Faith Academy junior high runners competed in the junior high girls race. Sixth-grader Shelby Poulter led the Lady Knight duo with a time of 15:11 on a two-mile course. Eva Broadbent clocked in at 15:52 to earn 50th place.
