No. 6 Brenham turned a slow start against Rudder into a statement performance to remain unbeaten.

Brenham scored 53 straight points, including a 42-point second quarter, to secure a 53-13 win over the Rangers Friday in District 10-5A-II play at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan.

Senior wide receiver Chris Guidry broke Brenham's career receiving touchdowns record with his three touchdowns. His touchdowns made up all three of his receptions and targets in a 162-yard night.

His first touchdown came less than a minute after Rudder (1-6, 0-2 district) opened the scoring. Guidry earned a 71-yard score to get Brenham (7-0, 2-0 district) on the board with 1:56 left in the first quarter after several drives stalled. Sophomore running back CJ Glover, who earned three touchdowns on the ground, gave Brenham an 8-7 lead with 1:53 left in the first quarter thanks to a successful two-point run.

Brenham began the second quarter with a quick two-play drive to extend its lead. An 18-yard pass from senior quarterback Xyran Upshaw to fellow senior Hagen Frank was followed by Glover's first touchdown from 48 yards out.

The quick drive kickstarted a 42-point second quarter for the Cubs. Glover scored all three of his rushing touchdowns in the quarter while Guidry added his second and third scores in the period.

Glover's longest scoring runs of 59 and 48 yards made up two of Brenham's six explosive plays in the first half. He ran the ball nine times while running for 134 yards and earned his fifth 100-yard game of the season. Glover also recorded his third straight 100-yard outing.

Upshaw also added a 13-yard rushing touchdown in the quarter to go with 224 passing yards on the night. He completed seven of his 11 passes with three touchdowns.

Brenham's final three points came on a 29-yard field goal from junior kicker Bleu Cienega with 7:01 left in the third quarter.

Rudder added a touchdown on a blocked punt and a 65-yard return to the end zone with 5:01 left in the game.

The Cubs reached 50 points for the first time this season. Brenham crossed the 45-point barrier for a third straight game.

Brenham's defense forced two turnovers against the Rangers. Senior linebacker Mason Seeber recovered a fumble on Rudder's first drive of the second quarter and fellow senior Kristian Prosper earned an interception on the first play of the second half.

The Cubs allowed less than 14 points for a fourth straight game and sixth time overall this year.

Brenham will return to Cub Stadium next week for a homecoming matchup against Killeen Ellison. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
