The Southside Panthers hosted the Sumter Central Jaguars in their first area contest on Friday night.
The Lady Panthers and the Lady Jaguars contest came down to the final seconds of the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers led for most of the game, but they couldn’t pull off the win against the Lady Jaguars. The Lady Jaguars defeated the Lady Panthers on their home court, 36-34. Shamya Allison led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 21 points and 12 rebounds. J. Smith led the Lady Jaguars in scoring with 13 points.
The varsity boys were close the first half of the contest, but the Jaguars came out with a burst of energy in the second half to secure the 58-42 area win over the Panthers. M. Reese led the Panthers in scoring with 10 points. J. Finch led the Jaguars in scoring with 22 points.
The Panthers will compete again at home on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 3 p.m. against crosstown rival Selma High School.
