Riley Green will be making his debut as a coach on The Voice when Season 30 premieres later this year, and he said there were two 2025 appearances that led to him getting the job.
“There were mentions that there was interest that I might be a possible candidate,” Green shared on a recent episode of American Country Countdown. “We were in L.A. and I did a show at the Grammy Museum, and we did a Q&A before the show. We had a good rapport, and that got me the job.”
Said performance and Q&A took place at the end of August 2025. A few weeks later, Green made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which solidified his spot in a big red chair.
“The personality that Blake [Shelton] had is what they’re looking for,” Green continued. “I also did a spot on Jimmy Fallon, where I got to visit with him and teach him a duck call. Those two things got me the job.”
Green said filming for Season 30 begins “in the next couple months” and admitted he doesn’t know what to expect aside from “how the chair works.” So far, he hasn’t met fellow Season 30 coaches Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah, and Adam Levine, but noted that Clarkson called him up when she found out he got the job.
“She’s a country fan, and I know she’s covered some of my songs,” Green added. “I’m not sure about any of it. It’s such a different thing. But I’ve met the team, and I know what they need from me.”
Plus, he said he’s taken notes from Shelton on The Voice and Luke Bryan on American Idol. “Now I know how to go about it,” Green admitted. “I’m excited about the coaching part of it.”
Like Green, Queen Latifah will also be a rookie coach for Season 30, while Levine and Clarkson have plenty of experience on the show. Both returning coaches have won The Voice four times.
