The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) will increase its patrols in and around Montgomery following the shooting on Saturday night in which 12 were injured and two were killed.

ALEA issued a statement saying that it will expand the "patrol footprint" of its Capitol Patrol Unit in the downtown areas of Montgomery.

The Highway Patrol Division will "increase visibility and enforcement" in the hopes of deterring crime and potentially dangerous driving behavior, the statement said.

"In addition to the efforts of the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit, these actions reflect our commitment to support our local law enforcement partners and ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors alike," the statement adds.

"Montgomery’s residents, like all Alabamians, deserve to live in a community free from violence. Achieving this goal requires strong collaboration among all branches of government — Executive, Legislative, and Judicial — at the local, state and federal levels to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens."
