A man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to his role in a kidnapping and murder in Montgomery in 2022.

According to a statement from Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver the defendant, Jeffery Pruitt, was reportedly involved in kidnapping the victim, Nakel Johnson in November of that year.

Johnson was beaten with "various objects" as he held in a hotel room and interrogated by Pruitt and other defendants, said the statement. He died as a result and his body was put inside of a car.

The car was driven to a remote area and set on fire before being discovered the next day.

Two other defendants, Reginald Renard Jones and Johnathan Antonio Hoover are awaiting trial.

“The violence inflicted on Nakel Johnson was horrific, and no family should have to endure the heartbreak of losing a loved one in such a brutal manner," said Oliver.

"Although nothing can bring him back, this sentence reflects the seriousness of this crime and ensures that Jeffery Pruitt will never again have the opportunity to commit another act of violence. Our thoughts remain with Mr. Johnson's family as they continue to grieve their tremendous loss.”
