A report from the City of Montgomery detailed what it called progress regarding public safety, infrastructure and others.Â
A 14.5% drop in violent crime so far has been recorded compared to the same time period in 2025, with overall Part I crimes falling by 20.5%.Â
Homicides have reportedly fallen from 32 to 26. More than 3,700 arrests were made, representing a 44.5 percent increase.Â
There has also been an investment in law enforcement technology, the report said. 1,050 firearms were processed and a number of cameras are active with the STAR system.Â
In infrastructure more than six miles of streets were paved, around 6,000 potholes repaired, more than 4,100 feet of sidewalk repairs, around 2,000 stormwater inlets cleaned, and more than 311 miles of roadside ditches maintained.Â
Among other highlights were more than 100,000 tons of municipal solid waste being processed and over 34 tons of roadside litter was collected.Â
The Inspection Department investigated a number of nuisance cases, addressed property violations and completed 48 demolitions and will proceed with 58 additional demolition projects.Â
The Montgomery Thriving Program received more than 300 applications requesting more than $13 million in assistance. The anticipated Floyd Campus, Carter Hill Streetscape, and East Fairview Streetscape projects are estimated to represent over $30 million in "potential" investment.
Also of note was the Montgomery Zoo has selling more than 1,300 memberships and adding more animals. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts recorded over 15,000 visitors. Its "signature" programs included the America 250 exhibitions, the annual Flimp Festival.
