The Russell County Sheriff’s Office recently concluded its five-day Junior Deputy Academy, providing local students with an engaging, hands-on introduction to law enforcement and community service.
Throughout the week, campers participated in physical fitness activities, toured the Sheriff’s Office and courthouse, met local officials, observed a County Commission meeting, learned about patrol operations, crime scene investigations, first aid, fire safety, and outdoor safety, and interacted with the Sheriff’s Office K-9 team. Students also took part in realistic law enforcement simulations, team-building activities, and recreational events.
The academy concluded with a friendly competition between the Junior Deputies and Sheriff’s deputies, followed by a family cookout and graduation ceremony celebrating the students’ accomplishments. The program offered participants valuable leadership experiences while strengthening relationships between local youth and law enforcement.
