18 people have filed paperwork to qualify for running in a special election to fill the vacant District 3 seat of the Montgomery City Council. 

According to WSFA qualifying ended on July 13. 

The seat was declared vacant after evidence came to light indicating that its previous holder, Marche Johnson, lived outside of the district that she represented. 

Johnson has since filed a lawsuit against the city challenging the decision. 

A special election has been set for Sept. 1.
