SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College football team dropped a 40-28 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest to visiting Lyon College on Saturday afternoon in the finale home game of the year for the 'Roos, as the Scots used a 23-0 fourth quarter to spoil Senior Day at Jerry E. Apple Stadium.

Austin College did the only scoring in the opening quarter as both teams came out a bit sluggish offensively. After Lyon punted on their opening drive and Austin College turned it over on downs on its first possession, a fumble by the Scots gave the ball back to the 'Roos and Barrett Hudson raced for a 34 yard touchdown to cap a six play, 56 yard drive to make it 7-0 midway through the opening quarter.

Lyon evened things up early in the second frame, as Noah Osborne caught an 11 yard touchdown strike from Grayson Johnson at the 11:39 mark. The Scots took the lead just before the end of the half, this time with Johnson connecting with Javarion Williams for a 47 yard score to make it 14-7 heading into the locker room.

Austin College tied the game on the opening possession of the third quarter, going 69 yards in six plays with Leyton Riviere connecting with Jermiah Johnson for a 34 yard touchdown, and after Lyon regained the lead with a field goal three minutes later, Riviere once again found Johnson for a scoring strike, this time from 33 yards out to make it a 21-17 game with 5:47 left in the period. The margin grew to 28-17 with just over two minutes remaining in the third, as Zyan Stewart broke through the Lyon defense for a 48 yard touchdown run.

However, the Scots quickly got on the board in the fourth, capping off a seven play, 86 yard drive that began in the third and finished just nine seconds into the frame on a 17 yard touchdown run by Jacobi Williams. The two-point conversion made it 28-25 with the 'Roos on top. The Scots took the lead back five and a half minutes later, as Donovan Jordan caught an eight yard scoring pass from Johnson to make it 32-28, and after an interception gave the ball back to Lyon deep in Austin College territory, Williams scored on another touchdown jaunt, this time from three yards out with Johnson keeping it himself on the two-point conversion to make it 40-28 with 7:44 left and that's how things would end.

Austin College finished with 470 yards of total offense compared to 434 for Lyon, with the 'Roos piling up 261 yards on the ground at a clip of 5.9 yards-per-carry. Stewart had 17 carries for 108 yards and Hudson added 106 yards on 12 totes, while Riviere completed 13-of-26 passes for 209 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Johnson caught five passes for 124 yards and two scores, and Bryson McKnight led the 'Roos defensively with 12 tackles.

For Lyon, Johnson completed 20-of-32 passes for 235 yards with three touchdowns and a pick, and Williams carried the ball 15 times for 90 yards and two scores. Jason Crawford had a team-best 10 tackles for Lyon.

Austin College wraps up the regular season on the road next weekend, as the 'Roos head to Shreveport to take on Centenary College, who the previously defeated this season 41-15 at Apple Stadium.
