A last-minute touchdown drive by Kilgore College and an upset victory by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College combined to spell the end of Blinn College’s playoff hopes Saturday in Brenham.
Kilgore rallied for a 45-40 victory over the Buccaneers at Cub Stadium following a long lightning delay that paused play late in the third quarter.
Blinn needed a victory over the Rangers and a Kilgore win over Northeastern Oklahoma next week to secure a Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) tournament berth, but NEO spoiled the Bucs’ plans with an upset win over No. 7 Trinity Valley Community College earlier Saturday.
Blinn (3-5, 1-5 SWJCFC) will conclude its season with a road trip to Cisco College at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
“It’s disappointing, but we had opportunities all season to put ourselves in a better position come the end of the year, and we didn’t do that,” Bucs head coach Ryan Mahon said. “We’ll look to finish the season on a high note next week and look to build toward 2026.”
Freshman quarterback Jack Emerson had his best performance of the season for Blinn as he finished with a career-high four passing touchdowns. Three of his TD tosses went to freshman wide receiver Ty Harrington, who also had his best game of the season.
Harrington scored on passes of 40, 4, and 2 yards.
Freshman wide receiver Braylen Harris caught a 19-yard TD to put Blinn ahead 40-38 with 4:48 left in the fourth quarter.
The Rangers then answered for good with a 69-yard drive that ended on an 11-yard scoring run.
Freshman running back Bryson Batts added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Bucs on carries of 26 and 11 yards.
“I really liked what we did offensively today, and that makes me excited for the future,” Mahon added. “We need more from our defense, and we’ll get back to work with that bunch this week.”
